Critical Role has expanded past just being a Dungeons & Dragons actual play. They have always had extra content that was not D&D-related. Their recent announcement falls into that category, as it’s a podcast titled ‘Weird Kids’ and will feature Ashley Johnson and Taliesin Jaffe.

The podcast will focus on their upbringing, growing up in show business as child actors. Critical Role says that the podcast will be “part hilarious confession, part heartfelt reflection, and all around love letter to anyone who has ever felt like an outsider”. The show will be a Beacon exclusive, which is Critical Role’s membership service.

The show will launch on March 20th with a launch party that will stream on Beacon, YouTube, and Twitch and will lead right into the premiere of the first episode. The first episode will then be available on demand on March 25th, with subsequent episodes released every Tuesday at 5 am Pacific Time on Beacon.

Johnson and Jaffe share a taste of what the show will be about. “We wanted to create a space where we could share the ridiculous, surreal, and deeply personal stories that come with growing up in the industry. ‘Weird Kids’ is for anyone who’s ever felt like they didn’t quite fit in-and we can’t wait for people to join us at the table”, says Johnson. Jaffe says the show is “a bit nostalgia, a bit history, plus a helping of personal issues and the inevitable eccentric trauma that comes along with it. I’m proud to bring you the conversational equivalent of watching a vintage moped run headfirst into the back of a 1930’s comically produced truck”.

Weird Kids premieres on March 20th on Critical Role’s Beacon, YouTube, and Twitch channels.
