DC Studios has been seeing success with stories within the Batman universe. The most recent being HBO’s The Penguin, which recently finished airing its first season. Another villain in Batman is getting focused, with a new movie focused on Clayface that has officially been greenlit.
Clayface has been a staple villain of Batman since 1940, appearing in many comics, series, films, and games. This new movie was pitched to DC Studios by Mike Flanagan in 2023, and according to sources close to the production of it, Flanagan has written the script for it. Set to begin filming early next year, it is said that Matt Reeves and Lynn Harris will produce through their company, 6th & Idaho Productions. A director for the movie is said to be announced by DC Studios soon.
The Clayface movie joins the slate of projects that DC Studios has in production, such as Superman and The Brave and the Bold. The Clayface movie is expected to be part of the DC Universe, though whether it is released as part of Gods and Monsters or another chapter is unknown at present. The first project of the DCU, the series Creature Commandos, premiered on Max in early December to positive reviews.
