Director, Showrunner And Lead Writer On Board For HBO 'Harry Potter' TV Reboot
The HBO Harry Potter series finally has a showrunner. Francesca Gardiner has a proven track record as a producer on shows like Succession, Killing Eve, and This Dark Materials. It’s no wonder that Warner Bros. Discovery has snapped up the two-time Emmy winner.
Gardiner will act as the lead writer for Harry Potter, a role which she’s very familiar with. Outside of the shows she’s produced, she’s also penned scripts for Medici, The Man in the High Castle, and Donald Sutherland’s Crossing Lines.

HBO has also tapped another Succession regular. Michael Mylod has signed on to direct multiple episodes. This is not Mylod’s first time in the fantasy genre having spent time on Game of Thrones and Once Upon A Time. Mylod is a product of the British comedy scene, having worked on shows such as Shameless and Shooting Stars in his earlier years, which could give an interesting twist to his episodes.
Other executive producers who have signed on include Neil Blair who produced on the Fantastic Beasts and Where To Find Them franchise, and David Heyman; a staple of the Harry Potter brand, who has been behind the camera since the beginning.
There’s no word on casting yet, but according to Warner Bros. Discovery CEO David Zaslav, the series is expected to air in 2026 on MAX.
