Fans Could See Isildur's Romance In Season 2 Of 'The Rings Of Power'

It's time to finish that second breakfast and prepare for the next adventure in Mordor as season 2 of The Rings of Power has finally arrived. Series showrunners Patrick McKay and J.D. Payne recently discussed the expectations for the season 2 storyline with EW, confirming that fans can expect to be introduced to Isildur's romantic relationship.

McKay said that the team “talked a lot about season 1, [with] Isildur (Maxim Baldry) being this sort of restless youth who wants to get away from his home. Season 2 is his Dorothy story. He's in Oz now, and there's no place like home.” Payne explained that in addition to finding his way home, Isildur will be balancing the needs of survival with finding love.

It is assumed that Isildur died off-screen during the season 1 finale. Following that epic battle, Elendil and the other Númenoreans set sail for home. Given what we know of the lore, it is no surprise that the future hero survived. While on the road to reuniting with his people, Isildur will meet Nia Towle’s Estrid. Baldry teased, “[Isildur] falls in love for the first time, but she may not be exactly who he thinks she is.” Baldry said that this storyline “taps into these Tolkien themes about love. It's not just about attraction. I think it’s also about finding a deep-rooted connection between two people who have lost so much,” he said.
