Internal Division Inspires Kadokawa Employees To Support Sony Buyout
In recent reports, Kadokawa Corporation, the juggernaut behind FromSoftware, is under Sony's acquisition eye. The acclaimed developer of Elden Ring confirmed that talks are underway, but a final decision remains a ways away.
Although this news may be exciting to some, others believe the deal may not go through due to the drastic dynamic shift Sony would offer to current employees. Takahiro Suzuki of Automaton, the agreement is more beneficial to Sony, who could utilize Kadokawa’s extensive intellectual property portfolio, but Kadokawa’s staff would fall under more stringent managerial rules.
“Kadokawa will lose its independence, and management will become stricter,” Suzuki told Bunshun. “If they want to keep developing their business as freely as they have until now, [the acquisition] would be a bad choice.”
However, it is reported that many Kadokawa employees are unhappy with how President Takeshi Natsuno currently runs the company after the company handled a cyberattack that led to sensitive personnel information being leaked online.
