Grab your lantern rings, because we have some Lanterns news. Actor J. Alphonse Nicholson has been announced in a recurring role in this HBO series, playing the role of a younger version of John Stewart’s father. Nicholson is most well known for his work on Starz’s P-Valley, in which he played series regular Lil’ Murda, though he has also worked on Clipped at FX, the Hulu version of White Men Can’t Jump, Madam CJ Walker and They Cloned Tyrone for Netflix, Just Mercy, and the Broadway play A Soldier’s Play, for which he won a Tony award for Best Revival of a Play.

Lanterns focuses on iconic Green Lanterns Hal Jordan (Kyle Chandler) and John Stewart (Aaron Pierre) as they investigate a murder in the American heartland; Jordan is presented as the older, more experienced of the two. Chris Mundy is serving as showrunner, Damon Lindelof and Tom King are writing and executive producing, while James Hawes serves as director for the first two episodes and a third executive producer. The series will debut, as stated before, on HBO, and is co-produced by Warner Bros Television and DC Studios.
