Mark Gatiss To Adapt Arthur Conan Doyle's Christmas Ghost Story For The BBC With Kit Harrington
Ghost stories aren’t just for October anymore, some even extend into the Christmas season. This winter, the latest entry into BBC’s holiday horror stories will be Arthur Conan Doyle’s Lot No. 249, adapted by Sherlock co-creator, Mark Gatiss.
Lot No. 249 is a Gothic horror story that follows Oxford students Abercrombie Smith and Edward Bellingham. Abercrombie suspects that Egyptology student, Edward Bellingham is conducting experiments to reanimate a mummy he owns, and sends it to attack his enemies. The experiments take place in the titular Lot No. 249.

Mark Gatiss is particularly excited about adapting this story. He says “Lot No. 249 is my personal favorite and is the granddaddy of a particular kind of chiller: a ripping yarn packed with ghastly scares and who-knows-what lurking in a Victorian closet”.
Kit Harrington and Freddie Fox are set to star in the BBC special. Harrington will play the role of Abercrombie Smith, and Fox will play Edward Bellingham. Other cast members include Colin Ryan, John Heffernan, James Swanton, Jonathan Rigby, and Andrew Horton. Principal photography has recently concluded, and filming took place in Hertfordshire, UK. Producing the film is Richelle Wilder and Isibeal Ballance’s Adorable Media. The special will air on BBC 2 this Christmas.
