As the march toward Andor Season 2 continues, this week featured two notable interviews with Tony Gilroy. In one, he spoke with Collider about Season 2 and in the other, he was interviewed by Gizmodo where he discussed the development behind the show, and Season 1 in particular.
The Collider interview featured many juicy tidbits of information, which have set the fandom alight. For instance, Gilroy stated that the Ghorman Massacre covers five episodes of the show, and the sets for the planet were incredibly expensive, so they wanted to make use of them as much as possible. Gilroy further praised the costume design for the show, and how much effort has been put into new fashion styles reflecting the high culture of an unnamed planet, as opposed to the style found on Ferrix in Season 1.

Gilroy also revealed some other surprising information with Collider. For one, the release schedule is a Disney decision, and not his own. The other is that, while he stated back around the launch of Season 1 that he would release the scripts and BTS documents for the show, this will no longer happen because of AI. He has great confidence that all of that work, the hundreds of pages of text, would simply be scrapped and fed into a machine, which he is strongly opposed to.
Moving on to his interview with Gizmodo, Gilroy discussed how, deep into Season 1, he realized that he could not do five seasons of the show. The task of one season alone was extremely daunting, and the process from that point on was to create a second season that dealt with the remaining four years of the timeline right up to Rogue One. This reveal is interesting since previous discussions with figures behind the scenes leaned more on Diego Luna being unwilling to do five seasons of the show, than the idea that Gilroy didn’t feel up to completing such a tall order.
He goes on to discuss the process of his show, touching on characters like Syril Karn and Karis Nemik, but like in the Collider article, also talks about what Season 2 will bring. Combining both articles discussing what he hopes for this final season, he is looking forward to bringing these stories to the screen, and the Ghorman Massacre in particular since the team behind the show got incredible creative freedom given it was so undefined in Star Wars canon.
Gilroy wants what happens in both seasons to feel inevitable when looked back upon, and he also speaks about taking the show and its world incredibly seriously. Such efforts have clearly paid off in the minds of many fans and critics.
Andor Season 2 drops April 22nd on Disney+, but keep tuned to CultureSlate as the coming weeks are sure to bring plenty more Andor news.
