'Marvel Rivals' Hits 20 Million Players, Getting Holiday Update
Marvel Rivals has been on the market for less than a fortnight and is taking the online team-based shooter scene by storm. It is seemingly Marvel’s answer to games like Overwatch and Valorant. It’s free-to-play and sports an impressive roster to start, featuring many of fans’ favorite Marvel heroes and villains.
In the time it’s been on the market, it has crossed 20 million players. Developer NetEase released a post on X thanking all the new players who have signed up and included a video that details some of the updates coming between December 20 and January 10th, 2025.
Much of the trailer focuses on Jeff the Land Shark, who sports a new fur-lined winter coat and snowboarding goggles. His powers get a winter boost as well, where he no longer shoots out water but ice and freezes the ground.

Jeff isn’t the only one to get a fancy winter update. Venom is featured in the trailer as well, and he looks like a frozen version of Groot, covered in jagged ice. Speaking of Groot, he sports Christmas tree legs and a full-on Santa beard. He actually looks a little like a buff, beach-going Santa….
Magik and Rocket are also highlighted in the trailer, which ends with Jeff posing in a scenic winter holiday postcard, seen in the thumbnail above.
The update goes live on December 20th.
