That’s all folks, at least for now; the incredibly iconic classic cartoon Looney Tunes has been entirely removed from the streaming platform Max. The early Looney Tunes and Merrie Melodies shorts are no longer available to stream on any platform, following the fate of the reboot series The Looney Tunes Show (2011-2014), which was removed earlier this year. These cartoons are the latest in a trend of content removal on Max, joining the likes of other cartoons such as the early Teen Titans Go!, Ed, Edd n’ Eddy, and Green Lantern: The Animated Series, as well as a chunk of the educational series Sesame Street.
Looney Tunes was first released in 1930, functioning as Warner Bros.’ competitor to other giant successes such as Disney’s Silly Symphonies and Paramount Pictures’ Popeye the Sailor during the Golden Age of cartoons. Iconic characters such as Bugs Bunny, Porky Pig, Daffy Duck, Elmer Fudd, Road Runner, and Wile E. Coyote were introduced in the cartoon. The Looney Tunes Show brought the characters into the suburbs, giving them real-world problems like roommate troubles and dating drama, and featured a new spin on Merrie Melodies. Content related to the Looney Tunes universe is still being made today, from spin-off cartoons to the Space Jam films and more.

Not all programs in the franchise have been cut at this time. Shows such as Baby Looney Tunes (2002-2005) and The Sylvester and Tweety Mysteries (1995-2000), along with newer programs like Tiny Toons Looniversity (2023-present) are still available on Max. There is currently no word about where the classic Looney Tunes may be uploaded to. However, The Looney Tunes Show has a solid future, moving to Tubi in April 2025. In the meantime, some major retailers have DVD compilations of the early days of Looney Tunes for sale.
