It's no secret that Daisy Ridley will return as Rey in the Star Wars New Jedi Order film, set to be directed by Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy and which recently got a new writer with George Nolfi.

But if any other characters from the Sequel Trilogy will join her in rebuilding the Jedi Order 15 years after the events of The Rise of Skywalker is up in the air.

One name frequently coming up is John Boyega, who played the (presumably) Force-sensitive ex-First Order stormtrooper Finn in Episodes VII to IX.

And now Naomi Ackie adds herself to the mix. At the Sundance Film Festival where the actress promotes her newest film Sorry, Baby, she was asked if she would like to return to the galaxy far, far away:

"Ask them. Star Wars, get it together!... I get a call, we'll see what happens, I'll see if I'm free!"

Her answer seemed ambivalent, but she said it cheerfully, suggesting that she would be willing to clear her calendar if Lucasfilm called.

RELATED:

Ackie played Jannah in The Rise of Skywalker, a former First Order stormtrooper with the designation TZ-1719 and part of Company 77. When she and her comrades were ordered to kill innocent people during the Battle of Ansett Island, they mutinied, left their past behind, and settled on Kef Bir, where they met Rey and Finn and later joined the Battle of Exegol.

The movie subtly hinted that Jannah could be Force-sensitive (just like Finn). If true, it would absolutely make sense that she became a member of Rey's group of new Jedi, even if she was far too old to start her training by the standards of the former Jedi Order.

The Rise of Skywalker also hinted that Jannah could be Lando Calrissian's long-missing daughter, but the 2022 novel Shadow of the Sith by Adam Christopher made it clear that Kadara Calrissian and Jannah were two different characters.

Star Wars Celebration in Japan will likely provide an update on the status of the upcoming Star Wars films, and fans may get a hint about other members of the new Jedi Order.
