'Agatha All Along' Will Not Be Getting A Season Two

Agatha All Along will not be getting renewed for a second season. In fact, according to Patti LuPone, who plays Lilia, it was never in the cards. Marvel Studios head writer Jac Schaeffer is much more content with creating one complete season arc and then the show is finished. This is also what came to pass with WandaVision, the prequel show to Agatha All Along.
Marvel reportedly did want a second season of Agatha All Along, and it has now come to light that they wanted a second season of WandaVision as well, but it was Schaeffer who turned them down. LuPone recently recalled a conversation she had on set with Schaeffer discussing one of Agatha All Along’s biggest plot twists involving her character when the showrunner explained that she doesn’t “do second seasons…there’s too much to write.”
Another consideration is audience numbers and cost/benefit analysis when it comes to shows directly released on streaming platforms. Single-season and limited-run series like this aren’t just being seen within the Marvel universe but across Disney+ and other services. In the upcoming years, Marvel is dedicating its staff and resources to producing an average of only two shows annually, down from a typical three or four series, focusing on quality over quantity.

Schaeffer has expressed that she doesn’t want her entire deal with Marvel Studios and 20th Television (which is slated for a total of three years) to be spent working on one show. It’s interesting, to say the least, that Marvel didn’t simply give the show to another writer to continue Wanda’s story. On the other hand, if WandaVision had gotten a second season, we likely wouldn’t have gotten the witchy wonder that is Agatha All Along. Schaeffer was originally scheduled to return as showrunner for 2026’s Vision Quest, but due to scheduling conflicts with Agatha All Along, that show will now be headed by Star Trek: Picard executive producer Terry Matalas.
