Screen Rant has exclusively revealed new information about an upcoming Star Wars manga produced by Viz Media and written by Kenny Ruiz.
Titled Star Wars: Path of the Lightsaber, the manga looks to be an interesting blend of elements, drawing from both The High Republic and the Sequel Trilogy. Set between The Last Jedi and The Rise of Skywalker, the plot will focus on “a young tinkerer named Nioka who dreams of becoming a Jedi like Luke Skywalker.” However, the echoes of Luke’s sacrifice will seemingly be a factor in this story, while the way The High Republic fits in is fascinating. While exploring a lost starship from the High Republic era, Nioka finds a lightsaber but is forced to defend herself as others seek the weapon as well.
From the dynamic and colorful cover art also revealed in the article, we get a clear look at Nioka, but also what appears to be a male Resistance member fleeing from the First Order, possibly an ally or friend the tinkerer encounters. A droid looms in the upper left corner, possibly having probe-like features or just a unique dome for some sort of astromech, but it is the two figures in the upper right who are of greatest interest. One is wearing a black armored and angular helmet, while the other is an impressive, fearsome warrior hefting a sword. These figures seem likely to be the villains of the story, likely piloting the black and angular starship seen just below them in pursuit of another ship, likely belonging to Nioka.
Viz Media has been producing Star Wars manga for the past few years, several being adaptations of existing stories, but also participating in The High Republic with the Edge of Balance series set to end this April. On a final, related note, more details about Path of the Lightsaber will be revealed this April at Star Wars Celebration 2025.
