The day finally arrived.

This morning, Nintendo held the long awaited Direct to go through the features of the upcoming Nintendo Switch 2 and there’s a lot to go over, so let’s get into it.

Right out the bat, they started out with a look at the new Mario Kart and it will be titled Mario Kart World. The world is an apt name for it as it will have a free-roam mode where players can go off track and explore the world around the tracks. It's taken a page from Mario Odyssey and went globe-spanning. It will also expand the roster to 24 racers, doubling the amount of racers on the road for the first time in franchise history.

They also revealed the true nature of the mysterious “C” button, and it’s exactly what some people surmised it to be. Tapping it opens all sorts of social options, like bringing up the in-game chat overlay that displays all chat members. Utilizing the new microphone on the top of the device, which has noise-reduction tech to focus on your voice, you can seamlessly jump into voice chat with your friends. With the addition of the extra USB-C port on top, you can attach a new digital camera that will incorporate into the game just as seamlessly.

Nintendo Switch 2 itself is mostly an upgrade from the Switch. Utilizing the new GameShare feature, which seems to be something the Switch is getting too, you can play locally or over a network with your friends doing the Split Fiction thing and letting you all play if at least one of you has the game. This is only available for supported games.

The power behind the system is updated as well. Nintendo is claiming 120fps on the handheld with the new 1080p 8-inch screen. The controllers are bigger, and the mouse feature that was speculated about turns out to be true. It has eight times the memory of the standard Switch, and when utilizing the docking station, it supports 4k resolution.

What comes with it? Aside from the usual, customers will be able to purchase a new Pro Controller that has the “C” button, and the addition of an audio jack. The new digital camera was already mentioned, but with the new addition of Gamecube games on Nintendo Switch Online, there will be a dedicated Gamecube styled controller for purchase as well.

There are a ton of first-party and third-party games coming at launch or within the year. Some previous Switch games will be available for upgrade packs that utilize the new system features like the mouse feature. Switch games will be compatible with the new system, but not all. Many games from the current generation of systems are making their way to the Switch 2, with the addition of new games like Hyrule Warriors: Age of Imprisonment, The Duskbloods, and Donkey Kong: Bonanza.

There’s a lot more in the Direct, which is linked here for you to enjoy. The system will launch for $449.99 on June 5th, with pre-orders starting at retailers April 9th.
