'Sand Land: The Series' Set To Stream On Disney+ In 2024
There's no denying just how influential anime has been for the West, as Japanese animation studios continue to add to the ever-increasing list of movies and shows with new ideas. Arguably, one of the most influential and memorable anime properties remains to be Dragon Ball, created by Akira Toriyama. Even if someone hasn’t seen any Dragon Ball, Toriyama’s character design is still very recognizable, especially in video games such as Dragon Quest and Chrono Trigger.
Most recently, Toriyama also created the 2023 feature-length film Sand Land, starring a demon who travels with others throughout a desert wasteland, looking to bring justice back into the war-ravaged world. While the movie was initially released in Japan, the series that will be based on it is set to arrive in North America in 2024, with Disney+ becoming its host. While scenes from the film will be shown in the series, fans of the manga can rejoice in knowing that they won’t be left out either, as well as the fact that some new plot points and arcs will be revealed as well.

Toriyama naturally has lots of input when it comes to Sand Land, as mentioned here after the release of the feature-length film in Japan:
"After Dragon Ball ended, I experimented with various short works and one-shots, then tried to put all I had into drawing what I figured would be my final work. This was 'Sand Land'. Thinking about it now, I'm surprised I managed to draw a weekly serialization all by myself without any assistant, even if it was only for a single comic volume's worth. The images I've seen still had many unfinished parts, but I never expected this to get a visual adaptation after over 20 years, so this kind of quality is like a dream come true."
For anime fans who want to see the passion and creativity put into the Sand Land series, keep your eyes peeled on Disney+ in 2024!
