While the game isn’t over, it’s definitely paused. The release of the next installment to the Saw franchise, Saw XI, has been suspended indefinitely. This follows a recent report by The Hollywood Reporter stating that there were issues between the film’s producers and its distributor, Lionsgate. Saw XI was originally scheduled for a September 26, 2025, theatrical release; The Strangers: Chapter 2 is now scheduled to release in its place.
The Strangers: Chapter 2 is the second film in a planned trilogy, and the fourth film overall in The Strangers franchise. It serves as a direct sequel to The Strangers: Chapter 1, picking up Maya’s story following her ordeal with the masked strangers. The specific plot is mostly being kept under wraps, though based on the trailer it will feature Maya grappling with paranoia that any stranger in the town could be the masked ones. The previous film is available to stream on Starz to catch up on the lore.

There is no new release window for the eleventh mainline installment to the Saw franchise, but hope isn’t entirely crushed for the film to come out eventually. Lionsgate released a statement from Billy the Puppet, the tool John Kramer uses to deliver information on his traps, “I’ve seen the rumors. They say it’s Game Over. You all should know me better than that. The game is never over.” While the future of the film is currently unclear, it is not dead at this time. While you wait for updates, the most recent film, Saw X (2023) is available to stream on Starz, and all Saw films are available to rent and purchase through major retailers.
