'Skeleton Crew' Creators Talk About Expanding The 'Star Wars' Universe And Chances Of A Season Two
Jon Watts and Christopher Ford, the masterminds behind the latest Disney+ Star Wars series, Skeleton Crew, are talking about expanding the Star Wars universe as well as expressing an interest in delving into a sophomore season. Watts and Ford sat down with Variety recently and discussed the implications for the galaxy far, far away with this addition of an unknown to the New Republic planet of At Attin and force-sensitive space pirates. When asked about the intricacies of the original idea, Watts commented on the open nature of the plot. “The only thing that I pitched was, ‘It’s about a group of kids that get lost in the “Star Wars” galaxy that have to get home again,’” he said.
Ravi Cabot-Conyers as Wim, Ryan Kiera Armstrong as Fern, Kyriana Kratter as KB, Robert Timothy Smith as Neel, and Jude Law as space pirate Jod Na Nawood spend this first season doing just that, trying to get home. As the story evolves throughout the eight episodes, the barrier protecting this unknown to the New Republic planet comes down and, with it, opens the door for all kinds of possibilities for a second season. When asked if optimistic about second-season possibilities, Watts told Variety, “Yeah, I am. You never really know when you make something and you send it out into the world what people are going to think. But the “Star Wars” fan base is very vocal, as everyone knows, and we’ve got such positive responses from everyone about this. We just want to make sure as many people see it as possible. We have a lot more stories to tell.”
