Some Analysts Believe The Trump Tariffs Won't Increase Switch 2 Prices

On what would have been the first day for retail pre-orders of the Nintendo Switch 2, releasing on June 5, and after Trump’s tariff madness had started to go into effect, he decided to rescind many of those (except against China). To say this has been chaotic and stress-inducing for people around the world is an understatement.
Also, people eagerly await hearing what Nintendo plans to do about the pricing of the Switch 2 since they halted retailer pre-orders to reassess the impact of these tariffs. But not everyone, it would seem.
Analysts at DFC Intelligence, a research firm, or think tank, believe that the Switch 2 will grow in price by about 20% over the next two years, however, there’s a caveat. They think that 20% was already baked into the price we learned about last week, the $449.99 price tag.
Basically, they’re indicating that prices could go up as production costs increase, and while historically consoles have depreciated over time, this last generation seemed to eschew that trend. Polygon rightly points out that the original Switch still retails for its original price, and both Sony and Xbox have increased the cost of their systems. Nintendo is notorious for keeping games at their original prices long after they’re out, so this is no surprise.
This doesn’t mean the price of the Switch 2 won’t increase, but what the tariffs may do is force Nintendo to scale back production, thus decreasing the supply. DFC Intelligence did say there will be more clarity when Nintendo releases its earnings report in May. Also, despite the tariffs and the thought of scaling back production, DFC does think the Switch 2 will be the fastest-selling system in history.
