Taika Waititi is an extremely iconic writer, filmmaker, and actor. From television to the silver screen to streaming platforms, Waititi has had a hand in a variety of works.  The creative stays busy; he has projects that were recently finished, some actively being released, and some held in the pre-production stage. On the podcast Bingeworthy, Waititi spoke about the state of some projects, as well as his experiences in the industry.

Waititi skirted the subject of project statuses as he explained, “What was ever alive? What is death? You know, death is just a new opportunity. More life to grow and flourish. Everything’s always in development.”  He put a positive spin on the death of a project, that even if something doesn’t work out, it was still a chance to learn and hone your craft.

The creative capped his comments off with some advice to others in the industry: “My advice for any filmmaker is, ‘Just say yes to everything.’ Because, you know, things come and go. And you never know what stage things are. And I’ve been attached to things that have disappeared for three years and then bubbled back up. I’m like, ‘Oh, I thought that thing was dead. Now I’ve got to go do that again.” Waititi was vague regarding the current status of his projects, such as the unnamed Star Wars piece that was first announced in 2020, though the implications lean toward projects still being in the pre-production phase or currently in limbo until official cancellation announcements are given.

Waititi’s works can be found on a variety of streaming platforms, as well as anywhere you can buy physical media.  He has a few pieces that have recently come out or are actively being released on a schedule as well. A Disney short following a boy and his new octopus friend, The Boy & the Octopus, can be streamed on YouTube and Disney+. What We Do in the Shadows, a series following an old vampire family on Staten Island, New York, is currently in its sixth season and can be streamed on Hulu.  The entirety of Interior Chinatown is available to stream on Hulu as well.
