Tony Gilroy Breaks Down Season One Of 'Star Wars: Andor' In A New Interview
Andor took the Star Wars fandom by storm with its compelling story and gritty, intense build. It became the origin of origins no one knew they needed. In an interview with StarWars.com, the creator of the show Tony Gilroy broke down how the first season was crafted, and what it shows and tells.
The show gives an origin to the Rebellion that fans have never seen. Gilroy describes it well, stating how, “These are all these regular, real people…And this cascade of events beyond their control is coming after them.” Gilroy’s crafting gave a grounded feel to the series; they were just people, not Jedi or Sith, just people facing the circumstances they’re forced to live in and how they fight back.

The formulation of action in the series is a boost to the realistic feeling it provides. With his long history in creating action on-screen, Gilroy was able to bring that experience to Andor for something truly special. The keys to it, he says, are “to have a very specific place and a very specific set of limitations to work against.”
If there’s one thing to keep in mind in the coming Star Wars stories to be told, Gilroy sums it up in this statement:
“If there’s a billion beings in that galaxy, surely there’s a billion stories there, and they don’t all have to do with lightsabers and Jedi and Luke and Darth Vader. I mean, other people are living their lives, and there are incredible events that are happening.”
