There is sad news for fans of the Transformers franchise today, as a promising video game bites the dust.

Transformers: Reactivate, revealed at the 2022 Video Game Awards, was set to be an online action game for one to four players, developed by the game studio Splash Damage best known for titles like Brink and Gears: Tactics. However, with next to zero news about the title since its reveal, many fans assumed the worst, a fear unfortunately now confirmed.

In a post made to X.com on January 8th, Splash Damage posted an update about Transformers: Reactivate, revealing that they were ceasing development on the game due to a need to focus on other projects. The studio also noted that a number of roles were at risk of redundancy, despite their efforts, reflecting the general trend in the video game sector over the past few years of downsizing.

These events also reflect the ongoing struggles Transformers has had in the gaming space over recent years. While previous generations of consoles were replete with new gaming experiences, few have come to the hardware of the eighth and ninth generations. This is despite continued films, TV series, and comics set in the Transformers universe keeping the brand alive.

Hopefully, Splash Damage can return their focus to Reactivate one day, or this drought of Transformers gaming will be ended by a different studio.
