Warner Bros has had a rough number of years. Many decisions have been made to try to bring in profit for the company, with some odd decisions among them. One of the more recent ones is the double exit of Worldwide Marketing President Josh Goldstine and International Theatrical Distribution President Andrew Cripps. Both were apparently gobsmacked by their firings.

Though box office figures might have decreased last year from 2023 figures, with global down by 19% and domestic down by 23%, that isn’t the reason for the firings. For Cripps, it’s a case of Warner Bros Discovery wanting to bring global distribution under one head. Cripps, who had only been at Warners since August 2019, must have been the easier choice to let go than domestic distribution chief Jeff Goldstine, who has been at Warners for close to four decades.

As for Goldstine, there are theories and nothing more. Theories that seem like they don’t take into account what Goldstine has done for both Warners and other studios. He propelled projects such as Sony’s The Social Network and Universal’s Fifty Shades of Grey to success. His 35-year career in feature marketing has seen his creative genius help the likes of Francis Ford Coppola and Sam Raimi bring success with their own projects.

Goldstine helped to make Barbie a success for Warners. Those who worked with him to do so remain, including global marketing heads Dana Nussbaum and Christian Davin. If anything can best explain why Goldstine and Cripps have been fired, it’s that they have been the unlucky ones as cost-cutting measures continue to sweep through the company.
