There’s been a lot of talk regarding the upcoming Sonic the Hedgehog 3, with no trailer in sight, fans are clamoring for every bit of information regarding the movie. It’s already been confirmed that the film will pull a lot from the 2001 Dreamcast title, Sonic Adventure 2, including its theme, “Live and Learn” by Crush 40. However, while many have assumed that the original recording would be used, some speculate that another yet familiar voice to the Sonic franchise may be singing this epic tune on the silver screen.

On May 24th, Bentley Jones released a video of himself singing an excerpt from “Live and Learn” on his X feed. In the post, he used the hashtag “#Sonic3,” leading some to speculate that he may be singing the song for the film.

Jones has sung for the franchise in the past, most famously lending his pipes to the song “Dreams of an Absolution” featured in the controversial 2006 Sonic the Hedgehog game, where it served as the theme for the then-newly introduced character, Silver the Hedgehog. However, he’s also covered other Sonic songs, such as “Open Your Heart” from Sonic Adventure for the album True Blue: The Best of Sonic the Hedgehog in 2008.

He’s also done covers of “Seven Rings in Hand,” from Sonic and the Secret Rings, and “His World,” from the 2006 Sonic the Hedgehog. Covering Sonic songs is not new territory for Jones. In fact, his upcoming album, Memoriam, will reportedly feature music from the Sonic franchise so the recording may be for that particular release. Regardless of whether or not it’s for the movie, it would mark the first time the song hasn’t been officially sung by its original singer, Crush 40’s Johnny Gioeli. Until we get official word on what context the song will be used in, speculate away, Sonic fans!

Sonic the Hedgehog 3 speeds into theaters on December 20th.
