Agatha All Along reaches the end of its run with “Follow Me My Friend / To Glory at the End” and “Maiden Mother Crone”, a two-episode finale that premiered the evening of October 30th, a fitting date for such a suitably spooky season show.

Like many Marvel shows before it, Agatha has had a rich run full of secrets, discoveries, and easter eggs/references, and the finale is much the same. As a result, it is extremely difficult to discuss the episode without revealing spoilers, so the context will be kept very vague.

After last week’s major reveal and shift in the group dynamics, the coven moves forward into the final trial. In the trial of the earth witch, the group is asked to do the near-impossible and struggles for a time before a series of revelations pushes a conclusion forward. More action and reveals will follow in the final episode. However, we can say little about it!

Turning away from the plot, the various sets' work must be highlighted. They have always been excellent, but a special note should be made for The Road in this finale. As many will have noticed, The Road changed across the coven’s travels, the foliage and surrounding landscape slowly shifting from a bright, cyan blue to a bright yellow, and further shifting in this episode yet again. It is as if the landscape is transitioning from a fantasy spring or summer into autumn, and it is a beautiful effect, though one must pity the number of people who had to work on arranging all of the exotic-colored leaves. Other praiseworthy elements of the set design and locations shown include a stunning visual moment in Episode 8, which harkens back to some of the work done in WandaVision, and some excellent location scouting for Episode 9 that really adds to the beauty and tragedy of several moments.

The acting for these final two episodes was excellent, too. The strange chemistry between Agatha and Rio was brought to life in full force by Kathryn Hahn and Aubrey Plaza. These two characters hate each other and love each other in equal amounts, though these episodes show some change on this front as both Agatha and Rio have vulnerable moments that show the depths of their relationship. Agatha also gets a particular spotlight shone on her in Episode 9, and Kathryn Hahn gets to show a great deal of range as a result.

Joe Locke as Teen continues to be impressive, as with truths revealed in prior episodes, Teen has significantly changed his tone and attitude regarding the characters around him. He now also has an outward confidence that Teen showed less often, even if by Episode 9, that ends up terribly shaken. Jennifer, meanwhile, was played fantastically by Sasheer Zamata in the shorter time she had on screen in this finale. The emotions at play for Jenn truly ranged the spectrum, and Sasheer’s performance was incredible and moving.

In the end, Agatha All Along has proven to be just as essential to the MCU as WandaVision was, though with even more satisfying twists and turns. It will be incredibly exciting to see where the threads of this tale are picked up next!
