Who Is Jabba The Hutt’s Son Rotta AKA Stinky?

Jabba the Hutt is arguably one of the most recognizable characters in the Star Wars galaxy. He is present in the original trilogy, the prequels, Star Wars: The Clone Wars film, and Star Wars: The Clone Wars series. With a character that is larger than life and present throughout the franchise, many would expect that his son, the heir to the Hutt Empire, would be equally as well known. Surprisingly, that is not the case for Rotta the Huttlet.
He only appears twice on screen; his first appearance is during the Star Wars: The Clone Wars film which was released all the way back in 2008, and the second time is season three episode four of the Clone Wars series when Baron Notluwiski Papanoida comes to Jabba for help. It has been announced that he will be featured in The Mandalorian & Grogu, but there is no word on how large of a role he will play in the film or if we learn anything new about him. So who is the tiny Huttlet that caused so much trouble for the Jedi?
RELATED:
Rotta is a tiny, greyish-green Huttlet with orange eyes. He is referred to as Pedunkee Mufkin, which translates to “Punky Muffin”, by his father, Jabba, and Stinky by Padawan Ahsoka Tano in the Clone Wars film. During the events of the film, he is 55 years old and stands at just 1’ 5". In The New Essential Guide to Alien Species by Ann Margaret Lewis and Helen Keier, it is revealed that Hutt’s can reproduce asexually which is why there is no information about a mother for the young Huttlet. Typically Huttlets spend the first 50 years of their lives inside the brood pouch of their parents, but that was not the case for Jabba’s son which is just one of the many questions we have about Rotta.
In the Clone Wars film, the huttlet plays a major role as his Huttnapping could very well decide the fate of the galaxy. In the film, Ziro, Rotta’s great-uncle, arranges for him to be Huttnapped by Count Dooku and Asajj Ventress in an attempt to stop the Jedi Order from forming an alliance with the Hutts. Rotta was taken to Teth by Ventress where it was planned that he would stay hidden until it was made to appear as though the Jedi were culpable for the act, and then Dooku would return the Huttlet to his father as a sign of good faith. Unfortunately for Dooku’s plan, Anakin Skywalker and Ahsoka Tano find the Huttlet and are able to not only rescue him but also nurse him back to health. When Dooku learns of the Huttlet’s rescue, he alters a hologram recording that he had secretly made of Anakin Skywalker and Ahsoka Tano to make it sound like they are planning to kill Jabba’s son.

After successfully tricking the distraught father, he is given permission to kill both Anakin and Ahsoka who are now on Tatooine making their way towards Jabba’s palace. In order to avoid Dooku getting to Rotta, Anakin fills the backpack they have been carrying him in with rocks and sends the Huttlet with Ahsoka while he goes off to face Dooku. After a spectacular showdown with Dooku, Rotta is safely returned to Jabba. We only see the young Huttlet one more time, and it is only for a brief moment while he is being held by his father. There is no other information about his whereabouts or where he was after his father was killed by Princess Leia in Return of the Jedi. I am hoping that The Mandalorian & Grogu will finally give us more information about Rotta and what role he plays in the galaxy.
All of the Star Wars films and Star Wars: The Clone Wars series are available to stream on Disney+. The Mandalorian & Grogu is expected to hit theaters May 22, 2026.
