If you’ve been to the movies lately, then you won’t be a stranger to the Argylle trailer which has been a staple at movie theaters since it was announced. The trailers would pose one simple question: who is the real Agent Argylle? Well, the time has finally come to find out, as the movie has finally been released in theaters, and it’s a wild ride from start to finish.

The movie follows writer Elly Conway (Bryce Dallas Howard), author of the popular 'Argylle' series. She continues to write and completes a draft of her fifth book, and sends it to her mother. Her mother isn't too keen on it, because of the cliffhanger. She tries to continue but hits a block, and decides to visit her parents. Her cat, Alfie, comes with her and even becomes an important character later in the movie. This is where her adventure starts. On the train, she meets Aiden (Sam Rockwell), who she later discovers is a spy. It turns out the books she has written have all come true, and the evil organization known as the Division is after her to write the next chapter. Aiden is looking for the silver bullet, that has information that could destroy the Division. With Elly being hunted, she has nowhere else to turn to, so she trusts Aiden. The two of them together figure out the clues left behind, all while fighting the Division's bad guys. Eventually, we find out who the real Agent Argylle is. It was a reveal that I didn’t expect but made sense. The movie's second half has many unexpected twists and some fun action sequences. There is also a mid-credits scene, that could help set up future sequels.

The casting was excellent. Most recently we’ve seen Bryce Dallas Howard in the role of director, for a few episodes of The Mandalorian. She also voiced Jedi Master Yaddle in Tales Of The Jedi. It was great to see her in a starring role once again. Her character was very entertaining and likable. Opposite of her was Sam Rockwell who played Aiden. He was great, once you got to know his character more. The two of them together made a wonderful pair. Henry Cavill playing the book version of Agent Argylle was a good choice and made a very convincing spy.  Samuel L. Jackson is incredible in everything he is in, and this was no exception. Bryan Cranston played the leader of the Division, and it was entertaining to see him play a bad guy.

One of the aspects I appreciated the most was how colorful the movie was. Lately, movies have been dark, both in lighting and subject material, which isn’t a bad thing. The use of color was utilized a lot in the movie, especially when it came to the clothing. Even the scenes around the characters were colorful. A scene towards the end is the most colorful of them all. It’s quite entertaining, and the colors there made it more exciting.

Argylle is an action-packed star-studded fest. The movie is weird but also quite fun. My biggest critique, however, is that it felt too long. I feel like they definitely could’ve shaved a few minutes off the runtime. While the movie is in no way a masterpiece, it’s a fun action adventure, that will keep you entertained and laughing.

Rating: 7/10

Argylle is now playing in theaters everywhere.
