Steven Yeun Joins Cast Of Upcoming 'Avatar' Film

A new cast member has been announced for Aang: The Last Airbender, a new film from the universe of Avatar: The Last Airbender. Steven Yeun has previously been part of The Last Airbender universe, having voiced Wan, the first Avatar, in The Legend of Korra.

Currently, Yeun is part of Ben Affleck’s Animals, which is in production. Recently released films Yeun is part of Joe Carnahan’s RIP and Bong Joon Ho’s Mickey 17. He has been involved in television series such as Tuca & Bertie, The Twilight Zone, and the Netflix series Beef, in which he won Emmy, SAG, and Golden Globes awards for his performance.

A joint production between Paramount Pictures and Nickelodeon Movies, Yeun is the latest of the cast announcements for Aang: The Last Airbender. Names currently attached include returning cast Eric Nam, Dante Basco, and Román Zaragoza, alongside newcomers Jessica Matten, Dionne Quan, and Dave Bautista. On the director’s chair is Lauren Montgomery, with co-director William Mata. On producing duties are Michael Dante DiMartino, Maryann Garger, Latifa Ouaou, and Bryan Konietzko.

Aang: The Last Airbender is set several years after the series Avatar: The Last Airbender, which was created by Michael Dante DiMartino and Bryan Konietzko. Details regarding plot are unknown beyond that. The film is currently slated for release on January 30, 2026. Fans of The Last Airbender universe also have Seven Havens to look forward to, likely around the same time.
