New Chili's In Scranton, Pennsylvania Will Overflow With 'The Office' Nostalgia

Scranton, Pennsylvania is bringing nostalgia back with a new Chili’s location theme after the workplace sitcom The Office. Despite the lack of a Chili’s in Scranton, the series dedicated a Season 2 episode to the Tex-Mex restaurant. The episode showed Michael giving out Dundie awards for silly accomplishments like whitest sneakers.

In another nod to the show, the venue will be decorated in the style of the early aughts and feature references to the show’s fictional company Dunder Mifflin to better align with the theme. Chili’s chief marketing director George Felix explained,

“For decades, Chili's has inserted itself into culture—introducing the now-famous Baby Back Ribs jingle, and most recently unleashing Triple Dipper cheese pulls on TikTok. But we've also seen the brand come to life on screen through the years and that includes being tied to Scranton despite never having a location there.”

Another change from the Office tie-in is the return of the Awesome Blossom appetizer, essentially a deep-fried onion served with cheese dipping sauce. The restaurant recruited actors from the show to promote the Scranton Location.  Melora Hardin, Andy Buckley, Brian Baumgartner, and Kate Flannery took the trip to Pennsylvania to try out the new place.

Baumgartner shared his experience, “Seeing Chili’s Scranton Branch was like stepping into a time machine, especially if that time machine could also spit out the greatest appetizer of all time, the Awesome Blossom. Scranton is a city I’m very protective of, and working with Chili’s to open this location was a natural fit.

The Chili’s team pulled out all the stops in creating this restaurant, and I’ll be stopping in for an Awesome Blossom every time I come visit.” The Scranton Chili’s opens on April 7 with a Scranton Marg available nationwide starting the same day.
