AMC Theatres, a competitor to Cineworld, created a marketing campaign encouraging customers who see the new film Five Nights at Freddy’s four nights in a row to watch the film for free on the fifth night. 

The film has grossed at the domestic box office at 113 million dollars even as fans were able to stream the film on NBC’s Peacock platform. The live-action adaptation of the video game follows a guy named Mike, portrayed by Josh Hutcherson, who is searching for a new job when William Afton, played by Matthew Lillard, meets him to offer him a job as a security guard at an old pizza store, Freddy’s Fazbear’s Pizza. It is up to Mike to keep an eye on the dated animatronic machines overnight.

On a 25 million dollar budget, the studio was surprised the film debuted with 80 million dollars on the opening weekend, especially with the film streaming. Five Nights at Freddy’s is the most profitable film between Blumhouse and Universal Pictures and is the highest-grossing horror release of the year. 

A sequel to the film isn’t in the works quite yet, but the film earned 215 million dollars at the global box office which ensures the film will undoubtedly receive a sequel.
