Award-Winning Composer Murray Gold Returns To Score Special 'Doctor Who' 60th Anniversary

A show that celebrates 60 years on TV is certainly one for the ages. Doctor Who, the iconic BBC export, is doing just that this year, and there are big things planned for the show’s release.
Not only are we getting the return of an iconic Doctor in David Tennant, but we are also seeing a brand-new Doctor in Ncuti Gatwa. Behind the camera, we are seeing a great return to form; previous showrunner for what many consider was the golden age of “Nu Who,” Russell T Davies, is returning to lead the show through its 60th anniversary and beyond. Via the official Doctor Who Twitter, we got another great announcement:

Murray Gold, who was integral to the music during Davies’ time in Doctor Who, will be returning, and has already lined up his trusted National Orchestra of Wales to join him. Gold made an early mark in the Who world when he revamped the iconic theme song, giving it an earlier 2000s rock tinge instead of the dated disco/80s vibe. He was also instrumental (pun intended) in developing ominous feelings by giving iconic Who villains, the Daleks and the Cybermen, their own themes, which have since become staples in the show.
Gold was quick to let everyone know he is excited about the return, saying “I’m so happy to be invited back for another joyful ride in the TARDIS. I didn’t think twice. Working with Russell and his team is just a pleasure.” Interestingly, Gold is so far confirmed for the expected November return, with the three episodes celebrating the 60th anniversary centered around Tennant’s Doctor, and then the first episode of the new season, which will cover the new Doctor played by Gatwa.
