Some may describe books as a dying medium, but they might have to rethink everything after hearing this news. Bookseller Barnes & Noble has announced 60 new stores to be opened this year. This news comes after opening 57 stores last year, as the company continues to grow. These new locations are in highly populated areas such as Washington DC, where the new store is reportedly sitting “in some of Georgetown's most sought-after retail space,” according to Axios. It will be interesting to see where the bookseller will be going next, as the company continues to expand over the years.

Barnes & Noble is a bookseller founded in 1886 as Arthur Hinds & Company. Under the leadership of William Barnes and G. Clifford Noble, it began to expand nationwide under its current name in the 20th century. In the 2010s, the company began to decline thanks to the rise of online media. However, around 2022, the bookseller began to experience renewed growth. This has been attributed to the rise of “BookTok”, a community of book lovers on TikTok, who often share their favorites with each other. As such, the company has experienced exponential growth, going from 3 new stores in 2020, to this year’s 60. Who knows how long this will last?
