'Blue Beetle' Star Xolo Maridueña Confirms Who Will Play Booster Gold

There’s been a lot of speculation regarding DC Studios’ Booster Gold since the series was first announced as part of Gods and Monsters, the first chapter of the new DC Universe. Now, it seems some rumours are starting to be confirmed, including who will be portraying the titular character. Xolo Maridueña, star of Blue Beetle, recently confirmed at GalaxyCon that Booster Gold would be portrayed by Kumail Nanjiani.

In Blue Beetle, Maridueña portrays Jamie Reyes, the third to take the mantle of the superhero Blue Beetle. His predecessor, Ted Kord, had disappeared during Blue Beetle. Kord was best friends with Booster Gold, with it seeming likely Reyes will meet Booster Gold during the series. Which could also answer the mystery of Ted Kord’s disappearance.

When rumours were first circulating over who would play Booster Gold, James Gunn was quiet when it came to Nanjiani’s name, when usually he is quite quick to debunk rumours. Other rumours about the series that Gunn has yet to debunk are that Ted Lasso star Jason Sudeikis will return to the DCU to continue portraying Ted Kord. As for those who will develop the show, rumours point to Danny McBride, John Carcieri, and Jeff Fradley. Jodie Hill has already been confirmed as a producer.

Booster Gold is one of the series currently in development for the DC Universe. Others include the second season of Peacemaker and Creature Commandos. The films of Chapter One: Gods and Monsters will start with Superman.
