The horror community has lost an icon as it was confirmed that Tony Todd passed away on November 6 at his home in Los Angeles. The actor was 69 years old. He is best known for his role as the titular character in the Candyman franchise, but he also appeared in The Crow, the Final Destination franchise, Criminal Minds, Riverdale, and Scream: the TV series, just to name a few of his more than 240 acting credits.
The actor had an incredible career that spanned more than four decades. While he is best known for his roles in the horror genre, he actually got his big break after being cast in Oliver Stone’s 1986 Vietnam War film Platoon. He was also to thank for the success of Tom Savini’s 1990 remake of Night of the Living Dead. Todd’s performance grabbed the attention of fans and paid homage to the incredible performance done by Duane Jones in the original 1968 film.
