It is the first blockbuster of the year and the first of three MCU movies to be released in 2025 (with Thunderbolts* and The Fantastic Four: First Steps following in May and July). It is also the first MCU film following the massive success of Deadpool and Wolverine last summer.
So, all eyes are on Captain America: Brave New World and how it will perform over the Presidents Day weekend.
Critics haven't been too kind with Anthony Mackie's first cinematic appearance as the new "Cap" (he took on the famous shield in the Disney+ series The Falcon and the Winter Soldier), with just 51% at Rotten Tomatoes and a B- on CinemaScores. This is on par with Ang Lee's 2003 Hulk movie and better than the recent non-MCU releases Madame Webb and Kraven the Hunter, but it is lower than The Eternals, The Marvels, and Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania, which all earned a B.

The audience score on Rotten Tomatoes is better, at 80% at the time of writing.
As for the money, the fourth Captain America film earned a solid $40M on Friday (including the previews) and another $27M on Saturday. A four-day gross in the mid- to high $90M is a safe bet, and if its performance on Sunday and Monday is better than that of Quantumania, which made $25.5M and $11.5M, respectively, in 2023, the movie could top $100M.
Disney itself predicts a 4-day gross of $90-96M.
An opening weekend of around $100M would put Brave New World between Qunatumania and Thor: The Dark World on position 27 among the 35 MCU movies that have been released so far (not counting re-releases and without taking into account adjustments for inflation).
Captain America: Brave New World carries a production budget of around $180M and will need a global goss of $425M to break even, which is a sure thing, as there is not much competition in the coming weeks that could push the movie from the top spot.
