Marvel’s Daredevil is back with Born Again and is now an official part of the MCU. The new series, Born Again, picks up with Matt Murdock having hung up his Daredevil suit and trying to balance his work life and personal life while his former nemesis, Wilson Fisk (aka “Kingpin”), is running for Mayor of New York City. The series also features the return of Foggy Nelson, Karen Page, and Frank Castle (aka “The Punisher”). With the return of the series, its directors, Aaron Moorhead and Justin Benson, took some time to discuss the development of the series and how they sought to keep what fans of the Netflix series loved about it with Collider.com.
Some of the key takeaways of their interview with Moorhead and Benson include the following:
Shooting for Season 2, which was already greenlit, begins this Friday, March 14.
Moorhead and Benson directed three episodes, including the beginning and the end. They promised that fans of the series would particularly enjoy Episode 1.
Moorhead and Benson cut their teeth working on series such as Jordan Peele’s The Twilight Zone reboot, Marvel’s Moon Knight, and Loki.
Actor Ethan Hawke recommended that Vincent D’Onofrio continue the role of Wilson Fisk/Kingpin in the new Daredevil series based on his love of his portrayal in the original series.
Moorhead and Benson wanted to continue the tradition from the original series of making the violence and brutality that occurs on the series grotesque yet meaningful: “Good guy or bad guy, this violence is wrong, and it's gross,” and yet it's still entertaining. And again, as filmmakers, we've seen some practical effects on this show that we literally didn't know were possible.
Daredevil: Born Again is currently streaming exclusively on D+
