Gil Kenan Posts Set Picture To Instagram From Start Of Filming For 'Ghostbusters: Afterlife' Sequel
The classic ghost hunters are preparing for a new adventure. Gil Kenan, the director of the Ghostbusters: Afterlife sequel, shared a set photo to Instagram this past week to announce the start of filming. Kenan posed with the film’s executive producer Jason Reitman. In the photo, Kenan holds a clapper with the word Firehouse and the Ghostbusters logo while Reitman carries a ghost vacuum.
According to the website Ghostbuster News, the franchise will return to New York City after the last film’s adventures in Oklahoma and will focus on a brand new group of Ghostbusters working with the Spengler family as they adjust to life in the big city. Ernie Hudson and Dan Aykroyd will reprise their roles as Winston Zeddemore and Ray Stantz to lead the new team in their paranormal investigations.

Other actors slated to return for the sequel include Paul Rudd, Carrie Coon, Finn Wolfhard, and Mckenna Grace. Kenan for his part couldn’t be more excited to direct the movie. Kenan said, “It’s an absolute honor to pick up the proton pack and step behind the camera for the next chapter of the Spengler family. I just wish I could go back to 1984 and tell the kid in the sixth row of the Mann Valley West that one day he was going to direct a Ghostbusters film.” Ghostbusters: Afterlife 2 is scheduled to hit theaters on December 20, 2023.
