HBO And Max Will Not Continue Their Contract With 'Sesame Street'

Yet another blow to children’s television has been delivered: HBO has announced it will not continue its deal for new Sesame Street episodes. The deal stretches back to 2016 when HBO was the place where new episodes premiered. Episodes weren’t just on the streaming service; they would also appear on PBS a few months later.
This unfortunate decision is based on the company's desire to create more adult and family programming and move away from children-focused programming. Even though HBO has announced they will not continue with new episodes, all might not be lost for the iconic children’s television show, which just celebrated its 55th anniversary. A Sesame Workshop spokesperson said the Sesame Street library will stay on the streaming service through 2027.

The Seasame Workshop also “looks forward to announcing their new distribution plans in the coming months, ensuring that Sesame Street reaches as many children as possible, for generations to come”.
Netflix and Disney+ both have a history of having content to cater to children, so you think they would jump at the chance to acquire the rights. Wherever the show does end up, hopefully, they keep their promise, so the show can continue to be accessible for every child.
