HBO Series May Make Their Way To Netflix In Potential Deal With Warner Bros. Discovery
The Max streaming platform, formerly known as HBO Max, and it's parent company Warner Bros. Discovery is considering a deal to license some of their content to Netflix, one of the streamer’s top competitors. Although nothing is set in stone, this is a shocking move as it diverts some of Max’s profits. However, the move will widen access to the streaming shows and may draw more subscribers to Max in the long run. It’s worth noting that these licensing agreements are non-exclusive, meaning Max can still stream the shows they sell to Netflix on their own platform.
Hello, World!
One major show being considered for the move is Issa Rae’s comedy series Insecure. Other titles are being discussed, but they haven’t been revealed to the public yet. In the past, HBO Max has made deals with Roku and Tubi, a pair of free streaming platforms with ads. They have also partnered with Amazon Prime Video to bring The Sopranos, True Blood, and Boardwalk Empire to a new audience. Before the rise of streaming, Warner Bros. worked with TV Guide, TBS, and A&E to bring special edited-for-TV versions of Curb Your Enthusiasm, Sex and the City, and The Sopranos. Sources within the company confirm that finances are the driving motive for the potential Netflix deal.
