‘He-Man’ And ‘Archie’ Voice Actor John Erwin Passes Aged 88

Fans worldwide are channeling the power of Grayskull to honor legend John Erwin, who passed away on December 20th, 2024, at 88. Erwin voiced Prince Adam/He-Man in the show He-Man and the Masters of the Universe. His representation announced on January 31st that Irwin passed away due to natural causes in his home in Camarillo, California.

Erwin not only made He-Man’s epic catchphrase “I have the power!” popular worldwide for fans, but he also voiced other characters on the show, such as Beast Man and other supporting characters for the series.

The outpouring of love and respect for John Erwin has been overwhelming, particularly from his colleagues. Alan Oppenheimer, who voiced the villain Skeletor, shared a heartfelt tribute, “Working with John Erwin was a ballad of irreverence, professionalism and surprise…He was a serious actor, writer, performer of commercials, musician, painter, and an all-around lovely gentleman, an indelible addition to my life.” 

Erwin was born on December 5, 1936, in Cambridge, Massachusets, and started his career on the series Citizen Soldier in 1956. After that show ended, he joined the cast of CBS’s Rawhide in 1959, which starred Clint Eastwood. 

Erwin’s representation noted in their statement his survivors included “his loving family of children and grandchildren.” A current photograph was not released.
