While Star Wars Outlaws might not have been the success Ubisoft was hoping for, there are still parts that have been worthy of recognition. The upcoming Grammy Awards will do just that, as composer Wilbert Roget II has been nominated for Best Score Soundtrack for Video Games and Other Interactive Media. Talking to StarWars.com, Roget has revealed more details on this soundtrack, along with recognising his peers. This is, after all, only the third time this award will be given at the Grammys.

“This was not something that happened overnight. I know a lot of people in the Recording Academy have worked very hard for a number of years in order to make this possible, and I’m very grateful for their work. I love video game soundtracks, not just ones in the modern era, but in the classic eras as well. And it’s like a gift that I couldn’t really have asked for, that not only are game scores being recognised, but that our score is being recognised amongst all of these giants.”

RELATED:

Roget certainly loves video game soundtracks, growing up “as a classical pianist. That was my first musical love, ever since I was maybe four years old.” From middle school, Roget started playing video games, where “Final Fantasy VII was the first time I really noticed the music in games and was encouraged to write music for games as a result.” Landing a job at LucasArts as a music editor and assistant, he soon moved on to “writing original music for some of our LucasArts games, like Star Wars: The Old Republic and Star Wars: First Assault.”

Having worked on the music for Vader Immortal: A Star Wars VR Series, Roget used the lessons of that for the soundtrack of Outlaws. That the direction the music takes is “just the logical conclusion of everything that you’re seeing in the art, in the pacing of the gameplay, and the animation, everything just comes together in a certain way, and the music just makes perfect sense in that world.”
