Happy Mar10 Day! Every year, on March 10, Nintendo joins the ever growing list of holidays meant for us to buy more stuff by discounting some of the games of their most famous mascot.
This year, they decided to go one further and unveil a new thing to buy through their collaboration with LEGO group. It was revealed today that, available for pre-order now, LEGO is releasing a large Mario Kart set, but it’s not like the others they’ve released. This one is a large brick built Mario on his iconic kart from the games.

It’s not a small set, with over 1,920 pieces, it will stand 8.5 inches tall. It will release on May 17 and run for $170. It will come with a LEGO display stand, which can apparently allow for the set to be angled, making it look like Mario is doing the telltale drift-to-boost that is key to winning races in the games.
However, also from the looks of it, the wheels are rubber and rotate, and the brick-built Mario also looks like he has fully movable arms and legs in the LEGO minifigure fashion. There aren’t many giant minifigure sized sets out there, so people can play out all sorts of red-mushroomed Mario scenarios with this new set.
It’s another one of LEGO’s odder lines, with the notable absence of the traditional minifigures, LEGO instead opting to use brick-built characters instead, making Mario and his friends and enemies in the other sets larger than usual.
