With the latest installment of everyone’s favorite superhero from Hell’s Kitchen, Matt Murdock aka Daredevil, on the cusp of returning to the small screen there has been a lot of pondering on who may return to reprise their roles. With Charlie Cox all set to slip back into the suit many folks wonder who else from the popular Netflix series might come back to join him. Mike Colter recently sat down with Inverse to discuss his character, Luke Cage.

For those who are unfamiliar with Luke Cage, he was on the receiving end of an experiment gone wrong; the results of which gave him super strength and unbreakable skin. Like many other heroes of this trope, he became a fugitive because of his gifts. As he proceeds to rebuild his life though he unwittingly ends up in the middle of a fight in his hometown. Like all heroes, he steps up when others need his help.

Colter was the titular character for two seasons of Luke Cage (2016-2018) in addition to reprising his role in The Defenders (2017), alongside Charlie Cox. Both series were originally on Netflix. One thing that sets these Netflix series apart; is the gritty level of violence seen in the shows; with characters like Daredevil, Jessica Jones, The Punisher, Iron Fist, and Luke Cage who are not afraid to spill blood, even if it is their own. Inverse points out that Luke Cage for instance was a bulletproof black man at the height of The Black Lives Matter movement. These shows had representation going on for them in addition to a strong and loyal following. The arguable reason for their cancelation was simply the transition from Netflix to Disney+ reuniting these series with the rest of their Marvel family.

Inverse asked Colter how he felt about his time on the show. He said, “It’s something that I really cherish. Just a moment in my life and career that I enjoyed, and that gave me a platform. And it’s an interesting role to play.” He was then asked if he would reprise his role in the upcoming Disney+ series, Daredevil: Born Again. Colter said, “There’s always potential, but at the same time, I’m very happy doing what I’m doing. I’m very happy doing film roles. I’m really in a good place.” The interviewer with Inverse took it up a notch by asking how he might respond if Kevin Feige himself was to ask him to return to the role.

Colter responded humbly as he said, “If the opportunity came up, and it presented itself, there’s always room to talk. But I never have any active thoughts about it. Would I entertain it? Sure. But at the same time, Marvel is the boss, Kevin Feige, those guys have a whole plan. Whatever they do, I’m sure they’re gonna make the right decision, and I’m sure the fans will be happy with it.” The actor is open to the possibility of returning should the opportunity present itself. Only time will tell as we move into the exciting upcoming phases laid ahead in the MCU. Daredevil: Born Again is expected to premiere on Disney+ in 2024.
