Netflix Is On The Hunt For A Leaker
Recently, a Discord user with the handle @jacejohns4n, leaked unreleased episodes of Arcane, Heartstopper, Dandadan, and Terminator Zero, among other shows. The leaker described it as the “worst leak in streaming history” and threatened a second phase. Now, Netflix issued a subpoena for Discord to release the leaker’s identity. According to Netflix, the leaks come from a post-production hack. The company stated, “One of our post production partners has been compromised and footage from several of our titles has unfortunately leaked online. Our team is aggressively taking action to have it taken down.”
The partner in question was Iyuno, a localization firm in California. Iyuno confirmed a recent security breach and asserted its commitment to protecting the confidentiality of its clients, which includes Disney, BBC, Amazon Studios, HBO, and DreamWorks. Discord, however, has different priorities than the streaming giants. A Discord lawyer released a letter about “improper and overly burdensome” subpoenas for Nexon, a South Korean publisher. The letter read, “Discord is committed to fulfilling its obligations under the law, but acting as your copyright assertion partner is not one of them.” As for the leaker, all social media accounts have been deleted or suspended, making Netflix’s hunt even harder.
