New Features That Look To Be Included In The Nintendo Switch 2
With the news and trailer of the upcoming Nintendo Switch 2 and little else about what comes with it and what’s inside it, there is speculation about what the system can do and what features it will have. We can glean some educated guesses from the trailer, however.
For one, there is current speculation that the joycons will also, somehow, function as a mouse as well. In the trailer, there is a segment where the new joycons are flipped onto their thin side, and inserted into some attachment. They then “race” around on a desktop-like surface, with the wrist strap trailing behind them like a tail. This has led some to believe that it’s functioning like a mouse. A close-up of the magnetic joint strip shows what looks somewhat like an optical sensor, the kind that is seen on a mouse. Knowing Nintendo’s propensity to innovate in the industry, and seeing that the unit’s kickstand goes further back, allowing for a near-horizontal display, there’s a strong possibility that this is correct. That also suggests that it could function as a tablet complete with web browsing and software beyond games.

Another couple of features on the new unit and joycons have led to speculation that the addition of another USB-C port is expanding the number of people who can use pro controllers attached to the portable screen unit. There’s one on the top and one on the bottom. This suggests that perhaps they have the means to introduce games that can be played co-op or simultaneously with a screen flat between them. Furthermore, there’s speculation of a new button on the joycon. There’s no information about this, and we likely won’t find out much until April’s Nintendo Direct, but some are speculating it’s a button to pop a chat window up on the screen.
