The successor to the Switch was known to be coming for some time now through a litany of leaks and was just recently revealed to be an actual thing. It’s coming sometime this year (probably this summer), and there is a Direct this April that will give us more information. So far, all we have is a trendy trailer that shows off the system but drops all sorts of hints.

These new features aren’t officially confirmed by Nintendo, but some patent digging reveals that these features are indeed part of the Switch 2.

The first is the confirmation that the Joy-Cons attach to the handheld screen via magnets. According to the patent, to detach the Joy-Cons from the screen housing, the user has to push two buttons that release the magnetic holds, allowing it to be removed from the screen.

Furthermore, an illustration shows the Joy-Con being used as a mouse, which was suspected from the trailer. The trailer depicts the joy-cons being inserted into a sort of docking piece and then racing each other around with the wrist strap trailing behind like a tail. The R1 and R2 seem to be the left and right buttons on a mouse, with the joystick possibly serving as a scroll feature.

There are also illustrations showing both Joy-Cons being used either in conjunction with this feature or a mix of controller and mouse. It certainly opens up a whole new avenue of options for games to be played and developed on the Switch 2, and the developer of Civilization 7 commented on the potential mouse feature for the Switch 2 being something interesting.
