Since Xbox finalized its acquisition of Activision-Blizzard back in October 2023, the video game industry has undergone large shifts that are still settling to this day, and the future of the industry remains dynamic. Since then, Xbox head, Phil Spencer, has dropped announcement after announcement about the plans for taking Xbox and Microsoft gaming into the future.
Last year, he revealed that they are promoting the play anywhere features they’re trying to expand, and they’ve really doubled down on going multi-platform. This centered around the expected release of Call of Duty: Black Ops 6, which had normally been multi-platform. However, since it was acquired by Xbox, people were wondering if Playstation would be left behind with the series. Spencer put those rumors to rest by revealing the series would come to multiple platforms, and further said that no previously exclusive game to Xbox would be off the table for discussion on going multi-platform.

This coincides with the reveal that Playstation and Nintendo logos will appear in showcases for games that will be appearing on their platforms.
With the industry continuing to shift around, it seems that, though Xbox is still committed to games, it’s embracing its role as a publisher more now than ever in the nearly 30-year history of the console.
