Last month, DC Studios announced an eight-episode limited series focusing on the Green Lantern Corps called Lanterns. The show will focus on new recruit John Stewart and the more experienced Hal Jordan as the pair try to solve a murder in the heartland of America. The showrunners originally planned to film in London but are now preparing to begin production in Atlanta starting in January 2025 and lasting through June.

As part of the preparations, casting has started for both lead roles. Hal is supposed to be in his 40s while John as a younger partner is in his 30s. Nexus Point News reported, “The role of Hal Jordan is intended to go to a noteworthy name. Casting on Hal Jordan is currently the priority with casting for John, following it. This could likely be for potential chemistry reads for the duo." Rumors have surfaced that Channing Tantum may be among the top contenders for one of the roles.

At the show’s initial reveal, the showrunners James Gunn and Peter Safran announced in a joint statement, “We’re thrilled to bring this seminal DC title to HBO with Chris [Mundy], Damon [Lindelof], and Tom [King] at the helm. John Stalwart and Hal Jordan are two of DC’s most compelling characters, and Lanterns brings them to life in an original detective story that is a foundational part of the unified DCU we’re launching next summer with Superman.” No release date has been revealed yet, but the show is no longer exclusive to the Max streaming platform.
