Rooster Teeth Returns To Founder Burnie Burns In Acquisition Of Remaining Assets

The fate of Rooster Teeth is finally known. The trouble started back in 2019 when Rooster Teeth announced a 20 million revenue drop. AT&T, RT’s parent company, was acquired by Warner Bros Discovery in 2021. Due to the losses, they promptly announced (less than a year into its acquisition) that Rooster Teeth was going to be wound down. This was compounded by reports of low pay, poor working conditions, and harassment from former employees. Since then, a few of its biggest shows have been sold off, including the popular anime RWBY, but no one has taken the full production company on.

Until now.

Burnie Burns might be a familiar name, he left Rooster Teeth in 2020 with the intent of moving out of public life and taking his family abroad. He created and/or executive produced their most popular shows, including Red Vs Blue.

Burnie set up Box Canyon Productions in 2023, and it is this mysterious entity (that currently seems to primarily produce Burnie’s podcast) that has purchased RT. Their domain name appears to be a troll post with profanity, but knowing Burnie, that could be intentional.

Burnie Burns has already expressed a wish to revitalise RT content, so hopefully, this will mean that shows like Camp Camp will see another season.  Box Canyon Productions has already said they are planning a new original audio adventure Again and an untitled reimagining of Burns’ first film The Schedule.

“I am excited at the challenge of bringing Rooster Teeth back to its roots,” said Burns. “The heart of this brand has always been its fans, and I look forward to writing a new chapter together.”
