Paramount Pictures has a new Star Trek film in the works, the first movie since 2016. The upcoming film is touted as an origin story, explaining the creation of Starfleet and the beginning of events that lead up to the 2009 J.J. Abrams film. According to Deadline, Toby Haynes will step into the director hat and Seth Grahame-Smith will step into the screenwriter hat. Further plot details are being kept under wraps.  Not only is the new movie actively in development, but they are currently looking at Simon Kinberg to step in as the producer!

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Paramount Pictures and Kinberg are in the negotiations stage. He has quite the nerd-based repertoire. Some of his works as a producer include all three mainline Deadpool films as well as Once Upon a Deadpool (2018), the 2019 Twilight Zone reboot series, Logan (2017), several X-Men movies, and several episodes of the Apple+ series Invasion. Kinberg has writing and directing experience, too. He was even one of the creators of the animated series, Star Wars: Rebels. Overall, he is well-rounded from both content experience and role experience perspectives.
