It appears that a revered name in tabletop gaming may be making a small-screen debut. Actor Joe Manganiello revealed in a YouTube video this week that he is currently working on a television show based on the popular role-playing game Dungeons & Dragons (D&D).

In a video with Black Forest Wood Company, Manganiello teased his involvement with a D&D show while showing off his new custom gaming table:

“I work for Dungeons & Dragons. So I’m actually shooting their documentary right now. And I’m developing a TV show for them.”

The beautiful table, delivered personally by the Canadian company, features a sleek resin finish, and has been a “personal dream” of Manganiello’s.

The True Blood star has been a longtime fan and ambassador for Dungeons & Dragons. His personal D&D campaign is stacked with famous faces, including Vince Vaughn, Tom Morello of Rage Against the Machine, wrestler Paul “The Big Show” Wight, and D. B. Weiss, the co-creator of the Game of Thrones HBO series. He has created original characters who are now part of the D&D canon, and has even launched a company producing fantasy streetwear inspired by the game called Death Saves. In October 2022, it was announced that he would direct and produce the first-ever documentary detailing the history of Dungeons & Dragons with co-director Kyle Newman.

Manganiello’s casual reference to this previously unannounced D&D show has raised speculations about its potential premise. Some fan conjecture looks to Manganiello’s spec script of the novel Dragonlance as a possible story for adaptation, but details are still unknown. With such a megafan at the helm, however, a Dungeons & Dragons television series is sure to be an adventure.
